HISTORY
This historic building was constructed in 1878. Maison Béthanie was a charitable institution where the Sisters of the Good Shepherd (Soeurs du Bon-Pasteur) cared for unmarried pregnant women. They took in babies born out of wedlock who were destined for adoption. Women--deemed "sinners" by the standards of the time--found shelter, care, and support there. The facility also served as a rehabilitation center for female prisoners.
In 1992, Maison Béthanie was converted into a museum chronicling the history of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd congregation and examining the social history of marginalized women and abandoned children in Quebec during the 19th and 20th centuries.
"IMMACULATE" FINISHES
Converted into condominiums in 2019, the units at Maison Béthanie are truly unique. The finishes respect the charm and history of Old Quebec while offering impeccable quality. The building has been completely reimagined with charm and brilliance.
CHARM, HISTORY, AND ART...
This condominium is located in the heart of Old Quebec within a truly historic building. Notably, the dining room features a stained-glass window created by an artist from a bygone era; a beautiful framed document attesting to this--discovered during the conversion work--is included.
