ADDENDUM -- THE PRESBYTERY OF BAIE-DES-SABLES
A property rich in history and soul
Built in 1864 with the help of the parishioners of Baie-des-Sables, this presbytery served as the spiritual and community heart of the parish for over 125 years. Under the leadership of Father Joseph Dumas, the first resident priest, the building was erected on land donated by the Fabrique, with volunteer contributions of wood, labor, and materials from the local faithful.
This site has stood the test of time with resilience, continuously adapting to the needs of each era. It underwent several transformations, notably in the 1930s, when Victorian-style features were added, including the wraparound verandas that now give the property its distinctive charm.
In 1992, no longer serving the needs of the Fabrique, the presbytery was sold to private owners, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Since then, it has been carefully converted into a Bed & Breakfast, preserving its architectural character and historical significance.
A living testament to Quebec's religious heritage, this unique property is ideal for a hospitality project or a primary residence with character.
Additionally, the municipality of Matane is served by a regional airport located approximately thirty minutes from the property. Though modest in size, the airport accommodates private aircraft--a noteworthy advantage for clients accustomed to air travel. This accessibility is particularly attractive for affluent guests, aviation enthusiasts, or those wishing to welcome visitors arriving by plane.
Furthermore, the two suites located on the ground floor offer a compelling asset for multigenerational travelers. Each suite features a private living room, dining area, bedroom, and bathroom--ideal for hosting aging parents or other family members while maintaining privacy and independence. While not a traditional intergenerational layout, this smart design provides just enough distance for comfort and harmony between generations--an appreciated feature among many past guests.
A full condition report provided by the municipality is available upon request.
IMPORTANT: Taxes apply only to the portion of the property operated as a Bed & Breakfast. The applicable percentage must be confirmed with your accountant or tax advisor.
